FREQUENT ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT AFRICAN SAFARIS

The best time for a Tanzania safari is during the dry season, from June to October. This period offers excellent wildlife viewing, as animals gather around water sources and the vegetation is less dense, making them easier to spot. For the Great Migration, July to September is ideal for witnessing river crossings in the Serengeti. However, the wet season from November to May is great for birdwatching, and baby animals are born during this time.

The "Big Five" refers to lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos, and buffalo, which are all found in Tanzania's national parks. Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, and Tarangire National Park are top destinations where you can spot these majestic animals. While all five can be seen, rhinos are rarer and are typically spotted in the Ngorongoro Crater.

Tanzania is a safe destination for safari travel. Professional guides are trained to keep you safe by following strict protocols when encountering wildlife. National parks and reserves have experienced rangers who monitor and ensure the safety of tourists. However, always follow your guide’s instructions, especially when near wildlife, and avoid wandering from designated areas.

A typical safari day starts early with a morning game drive, where you’re likely to see animals at their most active. Afterward, you’ll return to camp or lodge for breakfast. Midday is often spent relaxing, as animals rest during the heat of the day. In the late afternoon, another game drive offers the chance to witness the sunset and spot more wildlife. Evenings are spent around the campfire, sharing stories and enjoying dinner under the stars.

Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro requires a moderate level of fitness, but it is achievable for most people with proper preparation. The trek is non-technical, meaning no climbing equipment is needed. However, it’s important to train with long hikes, strength exercises, and cardio workouts a few months before your trip. The most critical factor for success is acclimatization, as altitude sickness can affect even the fittest climbers.

It's recommended to get vaccinations for yellow fever, hepatitis A and B, typhoid, and tetanus before traveling to Tanzania. Anti-malaria medication is also advised, especially if visiting lower altitude areas. It's crucial to consult with your doctor or a travel clinic well before departure to ensure you're up to date on necessary immunizations and medications.
