Your day begins very early in the morning when your Woodland Trek & Safaris driver guide collects you from your hotel or agreed pickup point in Arusha. After a short briefing, you begin the journey towards the Lake Eyasi region.

The drive generally takes around 4 to 5 hours, depending on the selected route and road conditions. Along the way, you will pass through northern Tanzania’s changing landscapes, including farmland, small towns, highland areas, and increasingly dry countryside as you approach Lake Eyasi.

Upon arrival, you will meet a local cultural guide who will help introduce you to members of the Hadzabe community and explain the etiquette for the visit.

The experience may begin with a guided walk through the surrounding bush. During this walk, you can learn how the Hadzabe identify animal tracks, locate useful plants, collect wild foods, and navigate through the landscape.

Depending on the day and the community’s normal activities, you may also observe or learn about traditional hunting techniques using bows and arrows. These demonstrations provide insight into skills that have been developed over generations and adapted to the local environment.

The visit can also include explanations of Hadzabe shelters, tools, fire making, language, social customs, and food gathering practices. Photography may be possible, but should always be done respectfully and according to guidance from your local host and guide.

After the cultural experience, you may enjoy a packed lunch or arranged meal before beginning the return journey towards Arusha.

Because of the long driving distance, the return to Arusha is expected in the evening.

An early morning visit is often especially rewarding because some traditional activities begin before the heat of the day increases.

Because this is a living community rather than a staged attraction, daily activities may vary naturally.
