Step into one of Africa’s greatest wilderness journeys on this 7 Days Serengeti Migration and Ngorongoro Safari with Woodland Trek & Sfaris, your locally based safari company in Arusha, Tanzania. Designed for travellers who want to spend more meaningful time inside the Serengeti, this itinerary takes you from the wildlife rich plains of Central Serengeti to the remote landscapes of Northern Serengeti before completing your adventure inside the magnificent Ngorongoro Crater.
Your Tanzania safari begins at Kilimanjaro International Airport, where our representative will welcome you and transfer you to Arusha. Here, beneath the commanding presence of Mount Meru, you can relax and prepare for the adventure ahead.
The following morning, you begin the spectacular overland journey toward Central Serengeti National Park. The road carries you through the Great Rift Valley region, the fertile highlands around Karatu and the beautiful Ngorongoro Conservation Area before the landscape finally opens into the seemingly endless plains of the Serengeti.
Covering approximately 14,763 square kilometres, Serengeti National Park protects an extraordinary mixture of open grasslands, acacia woodland, river systems, rocky kopjes and seasonal wildlife habitats. Its enormous landscapes support lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests and countless other species.
Your first Serengeti experience takes place in the Central Serengeti, particularly around the famous Seronera region. Permanent water sources support abundant resident wildlife, making this one of the most productive game viewing areas in Tanzania throughout the year.
From Central Serengeti, you continue north toward the remote wilderness around Kogatende and the Mara River. Northern Serengeti feels more secluded, with rolling hills, rocky landscapes, riverine woodland and broad savannah stretching toward the Kenya border.
During the seasonal Great Wildebeest Migration, particularly in the months when herds move through the northern ecosystem, vast numbers of wildebeests and zebras may gather around the Mara River. River crossings cannot be predicted or guaranteed, but simply being surrounded by thousands of migrating animals can become one of the most memorable experiences of an African safari.
A full day in Northern Serengeti gives you time to explore without rushing. Your guide can follow wildlife movements, investigate river areas and search for predators including lions, leopards, cheetahs and spotted hyenas.
You then journey south again toward Central Serengeti, turning what could simply be a transfer into another rewarding game drive. Every kilometre offers possibilities, from elephants crossing the road to lions resting on granite kopjes beneath the African sun.
The final wildlife chapter of your journey unfolds inside the legendary Ngorongoro Crater. Descending approximately 600 metres from the crater rim, you enter a remarkable natural sanctuary covering roughly 300 square kilometres, where large numbers of wildlife live within an extraordinary volcanic landscape.
Your journey concludes with a peaceful evening in Karatu before travelling back to Arusha or Kilimanjaro International Airport.
Created for wildlife lovers, photographers, honeymooners, couples, families and travellers searching for a Serengeti Great Migration safari, this itinerary allows you to experience northern Tanzania at an enjoyable pace while spending valuable time in the country’s most celebrated wilderness.
With Woodland Trek & Sfaris, you do not simply travel across Tanzania. You follow ancient wildlife trails, watch the horizon come alive and discover why the Serengeti continues to capture the imagination of travellers around the world.
