Discover the many faces of northern Tanzania on this carefully designed 12 Days Tanzania Wildlife, Culture and Serengeti Safari with Woodland Trek & Safaris, a locally based tour company in Arusha, Tanzania. This immersive journey combines close wildlife encounters, vibrant local culture, traditional communities and some of Africa’s greatest safari landscapes.
Your adventure begins at Kilimanjaro International Airport, where you will receive a warm Tanzanian welcome before travelling to Arusha. Surrounded by fertile countryside and overlooked by Mount Meru, Arusha is the perfect gateway to Tanzania’s legendary Northern Safari Circuit.
Your first full experience takes you to Serval Wildlife, located in the Siha District between Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru. Unlike a traditional national park safari, Serval Wildlife offers a carefully managed sanctuary setting where you can observe selected African animals at close range while learning about wildlife care, conservation and rehabilitation. Giraffes, zebras, elands, ostriches and other animals create an intimate introduction to Tanzania’s wildlife.
The following day introduces you to the rhythm of everyday Tanzanian life through an Arusha City Tour. Local markets, historic landmarks, artisan centres and colourful streets give you a deeper understanding of the city that serves as the beating heart of northern Tanzania’s safari industry.
From Arusha, your journey enters the wilderness of Tarangire National Park, covering approximately 2,850 square kilometres. Famous for ancient baobab trees, large elephant herds and the life giving Tarangire River, the park offers classic African safari scenery and rewarding wildlife encounters.
Your experience then moves from wildlife to culture in Mto wa Mbu, a lively community near Lake Manyara and the Great Rift Valley escarpment. Farms, banana plantations, local markets, traditional food and artisan workshops introduce you to the cultural diversity of northern Tanzania.
From Mto wa Mbu, you journey toward Lake Eyasi, a seasonal salt lake covering approximately 1,050 square kilometres when full. Here, you will meet the Hadzabe community, whose traditional hunter gatherer heritage remains closely connected to the surrounding land. The experience may include traditional fire making, bow and arrow demonstrations, foraging knowledge and an introduction to a lifestyle shaped by generations of adaptation to the East African environment.
Your adventure then turns toward the legendary Serengeti National Park, an enormous protected wilderness covering approximately 14,763 square kilometres. You first explore Central Serengeti, where the famous Seronera region supports abundant resident wildlife throughout the year.
From Central Serengeti, you travel north toward the remote Kogatende region and the Mara River ecosystem. Northern Serengeti offers rolling grasslands, river valleys, granite outcrops and excellent opportunities to encounter lions, leopards, elephants, cheetahs, giraffes and large herbivore herds.
During the seasonal Great Wildebeest Migration, enormous numbers of wildebeests and zebras may gather across Northern Serengeti. The famous Mara River crossings are among Africa’s most dramatic wildlife spectacles, although every crossing is a natural event and can never be guaranteed.
After a full day exploring Northern Serengeti, you return south toward Central Serengeti, transforming the journey into another rewarding game drive through changing landscapes.
Your final major wildlife adventure takes place inside the magnificent Ngorongoro Crater, an ancient volcanic caldera covering approximately 260 square kilometres. After descending around 600 metres from the rim, you enter an extraordinary natural sanctuary inhabited by lions, buffaloes, hippos, elephants, wildebeests, zebras, spotted hyenas and the rare black rhinoceros.
By the end of your twelve day journey, Tanzania will have revealed itself through many different stories. You will have stood close to wildlife, walked through busy markets, shared moments with local communities, watched elephants beneath ancient baobabs, followed predators across the Serengeti and looked across the vast floor of Ngorongoro Crater.
Designed for families, couples, honeymooners, photographers, wildlife enthusiasts and cultural travellers, this itinerary combines some of the best Tanzania safari experiences, Serengeti Great Migration adventures, Hadzabe cultural tours, Tarangire safaris and Ngorongoro Crater tours into one unforgettable journey.
With Woodland Trek & Safaris, you do not simply visit Tanzania. You experience its wildlife, meet its people and follow its landscapes from the foothills of Kilimanjaro to the endless plains of the Serengeti.
